Cette centaine de marqueurs, lorsqu\u2019ils sont r\u00e9unis, repr\u00e9sentent pour 2,7% de la diff\u00e9rence dans l\u2019IMC entre les gens (1). Le g\u00e8ne FTO (Fat mass and obesity-associated protein) est celui qui est le plus fortement li\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019ob\u00e9sit\u00e9, expliquant seulement pour 0,34% des diff\u00e9rences entre les personnes (2). Le g\u00e8ne FTO est utilis\u00e9 pour une prot\u00e9ine du cerveau qui semble affecter l\u2019app\u00e9tit (3). Mais surtout, le g\u00e8ne apparait seulement entrainer une diff\u00e9rence d\u2019apport de 525kcal\/an (4). Alors que l\u2019\u00e9pid\u00e9mie d\u2019ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 concerne plusieurs centaines de kilocalories par jour (220kcal) (5). Pour r\u00e9sumer, les g\u00e8nes ne sont pas des responsables de cette \u00e9pid\u00e9mie d\u2019ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rale. La g\u00e9n\u00e9tique a un impact tr\u00e8s faible m\u00eame au niveau de l\u2019individu et \u00e7a sera surtout le style de vie qui sera pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rant. En effet, le g\u00e8ne FTO semble d\u2019importance moindre parmi ceux qui sont physiquement actifs (6), et peut totalement disparaitre lorsqu\u2019une alimentation plus saine est apport\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019organisme. Car le FTO ne semble affecter que les r\u00e9gimes plus riches en graisses satur\u00e9es. \u00c0 l\u2019inverse, ceux ayant une alimentation faible en graisses satur\u00e9es semblent ne plus avoir de pr\u00e9disposition de prise de poids, m\u00eame avec la pr\u00e9sence du g\u00e8ne FTO (7). Les g\u00e8nes ne sont qu\u2019une pr\u00e9disposition augmentant l\u00e9g\u00e8rement les risques de surpoids ou d\u2019ob\u00e9sit\u00e9, ce qui pr\u00e9domine c\u2019est le style de vie notamment familiale dans le cadre de l\u2019ob\u00e9sit\u00e9 infantile (8). Lorsque des enfants grandissent avec deux parents biologiques en surpoids, ils se sont av\u00e9r\u00e9s \u00eatre 27% plus susceptible d\u2019\u00eatre eux-m\u00eames en surpoids, alors que des enfants adopt\u00e9s et plac\u00e9s dans une maison avec deux parents en surpoids \u00e9taient 21% plus susceptibles d\u2019\u00eatre en surpoids (9).
